SmartClean Can’t Uninstall an App

Applies to: Intego ONE for Mac · SmartClean

If SmartClean can’t uninstall an app, shows an error, or leaves the app on your Mac, follow these steps in order. Move to the next step only if the previous one doesn’t work.

Quit the app and try again

Save your work before closing the app. Then use any of these methods:

Quit Selected App then Uninstall via SmartClean.gif
  • From SmartClean: Open SmartClean > RAM or CPU, select the app, then choose Quit Selected.
  • From the menu bar: Open the app, select its name in the menu bar, then choose Quit [app name].
  • From the Dock: Control-click the app’s icon in the Dock, then choose Quit.
  • If the app won’t respond: Press Command + Option + Esc, select the app, then choose Force Quit.

After the app closes, return to SmartClean > App Uninstaller and try uninstalling it again.

Verify Full Disk Access and try again

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
  2. Find Intego ONE and make sure the switch is on.
  3. Return to SmartClean > App Uninstaller and try removing the app again.
Note: Some apps are protected by macOS System Integrity Protection (SIP) — typically built-in system apps rather than apps you've installed yourself. SmartClean can't remove SIP-protected apps; use the app's own uninstaller instead, if one is available.

Still not resolved?

If SmartClean still can’t remove the app, Generate a debug log report and submit a request and include:

  • The name of the application you're trying to uninstall.
  • The exact error message shown, if any.
  • Whether the app remains in your Applications folder after the attempt.
  • Whether you completely closed the app before trying again.
