Applies to: Intego ONE for Mac · SmartClean
If SmartClean can’t free up space, or frees less space than expected, check its permissions first. Then follow the remaining steps in order.
❶ Verify Full Disk Access
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
- Find Intego ONE and make sure the switch is turned on.
- If Intego ONE isn’t listed, click +, enter your Mac administrator password, and select Modify Settings.
- Open the Applications folder, select Intego ONE, and add it.
- Open SmartClean and run another scan.
➋ Quit apps that may be using the files
- Close any apps you don’t need before running SmartClean.
- If an app won’t close, open Activity Monitor, select the app, click the Stop (X) button, and choose Quit. Don’t quit processes you don’t recognize.
- Run the SmartClean scan again, then try cleaning the files.
| Tip — Some files SmartClean identifies belong to system processes that are always running, and can't be removed without a restart. If less space was freed than expected, this is usually why. |
➌ Restart your Mac, then run SmartClean
- Select Apple menu > Shut Down.
- Wait 30 seconds, then turn your Mac back on.
- Before opening any other apps, open Intego ONE and run SmartClean. This prevents other apps from using files that SmartClean may need to remove.
➍ Uninstall and reinstall Intego ONE
If the issue persists after restarting:
- Go to Help > Uninstall to fully remove the application.
- Sign in to My Account, go to Overview, and click Download for a fresh copy.
- Reinstall, then run SmartClean again.
Still not resolved?
If SmartClean still won't free up the expected space, Generate a debug log report and submit a request and include:
- How much space SmartClean shows as recoverable vs. how much was actually freed
- Which categories you're cleaning (junk files, duplicates, large files, app leftovers)
- Any error messages shown during or after the clean
- Whether Full Disk Access is granted to Intego ONE
