Ever wonder why you don't see Intego open every time you start up your Mac, but it still seems to be protecting you? That's by design — here's how it actually works, whether you're on Intego X9 or Intego ONE.
Yes, Your Protection Runs in the Background
Once installed and set up, you don't need to manually launch Intego X9 or Intego ONE for it to protect your Mac. Both products run continuously in the background via a daemon — a process with no visible window that handles ongoing tasks like real-time scanning, without you needing to open the app.
Your software is actively running and monitoring for threats at all times, and will alert you if it detects a virus or finds a problem — even if you never open the app itself.
You Don't Need to Add Intego to Your Login Items
Since Intego software launches its background protection automatically once installed, there's no need to manually add it to your Login Items (found in System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions) to make sure it starts up. Doing so isn't necessary and won't provide any additional benefit.
The only time you'll need to manually open the app is to run a manual antivirus or SmartClean scan, manage your Firewall, manage your VPN connection, check your protection status, or change your settings — day-to-day protection doesn't require it.
