Troubleshooting SmartClean Errors

This guide offers troubleshooting steps for resolving customer issues with SmartClean when the app fails to fully remove files or uninstall programs (e.g., reports "Unable to clean file storage" or "Unable to uninstall apps").

General troubleshooting steps

Follow the recommended troubleshooting steps on the affected device to resolve the SmartClean issue.

Note: Proceed to the next step only if the previous one does not resolve the problem.

Step #1: Use the latest app version

  1. Navigate to the Intego ONE website: intego.com/one
  2. Select Sign In and enter your registered email address and password to log in.
  3. On the Overview page, scroll down to find the Download option. This option is located below the Your Plan and Your Devices sections.
  4. Click Download. The installer file will automatically begin downloading and can be found in your computer's Downloads folder.
    • Additionally, you can find a link to the installer within the Devices & Users page under the Set up Intego on your Mac instruction section.

Step #2: Verify app permissions

Ensure that you have granted Full Disk Access to the Intego ONE app to prevent the system from blocking SmartClean processes.

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security.
  2. Scroll down to Full Disk Access and click the lock icon to make changes (you may need to enter your admin password).
  3. Find the Intego ONE app in the list, or use the + button to add it, and ensure the box next to it is checked.
  4. Restart the app and try again. 

Step #3: Quit any apps that might interfere with the Intego ONE app

Third-party antivirus or cleaner apps might interfere with the processes of the Intego ONE app. Make sure to quit these apps or whitelist the Intego ONE app from antivirus software.

Step #4: Force quit the Intego ONE app

This is to terminate any failed or unresponsive attempts to run the SmartClean app. While on the Intego ONE app, refer to the Menu bar above, then select the Apple menu > Force Quit.

Step #5: Restart your Mac

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner.
  2. Select Restart from the dropdown menu.
  3. When prompted, click Restart again to confirm.
