SmartClean: Disk Space Monitor

The Disk Space Monitor, accessible via the SmartClean Dashboard, allows you to manage you macOS’s disk space, clean unwanted files, and optimize your Mac's performance. This is where you review and clean the large and junk files identified by an Optimization Scan or Quick Cleanup.

Accessing Disk Space Monitor

1. Click the app's icon in the taskbar to launch it.
2. Select Open to access the Dashboard.
3. Go to the SmartClean Dashboard.
4. In the Content View, select Disk Space Monitor.

Understanding the Accessory View

The Accessory View at the bottom of Disk Space Monitor gives you an overview of your Mac's disk consumption at a glance.

Choosing a File Type to Review

The Content View shows large or junk files based on your selection, ordered from largest to smallest, with file sizes displayed next to each item. Select either:

• Large Files
• Junk

Cleaning Large Files

Note — The Clean Now button is greyed out at the category level when Large Files is selected. This ensures files are reviewed and selected individually, to avoid accidental deletion.

Reviewing a large file

1. Locate the file in the list.
2. Select the arrow icon, or click the … (three dots) menu next to it.
3. Choose Reveal in Finder to see the file's exact location before deciding whether to delete it.

Cleaning (deleting) a large file

1. Select the file you want to delete.
2. Click Clean Now.
   • Alternatively, click the … menu next to the file and select Delete.
3. A confirmation pop-up will appear — select Delete File to permanently remove it.

Cleaning Junk Files

Junk files are grouped into two categories:

• Review Before Cleaning — includes old Trash files and old Downloads
• Safe to Clean — includes Caches and Logs

Reviewing junk files in detail

1. Click the expand icon (>) next to Trash and/or Downloads to see the files within that category.
2. Within the expanded list, click to expand further and see each individual file's name.
3. Hover over a file and select the arrow icon to reveal it in Finder.
   • Alternatively, click the … menu next to the file and select Reveal in Finder.

Cleaning an entire junk category

1. Click on the category name — Trash, Downloads, Caches, or Logs.
2. Click Clean Now to clean all files in that category at once.

Cleaning an individual file (Trash and Downloads only)

1. Select the individual file within the Trash or Downloads category.
2. Click Clean Now.
   • Alternatively, click the … menu next to the file and select Delete.
3. A confirmation pop-up will appear — select Delete File to permanently remove it.

Note — Unlike Large Files, the Clean Now button is enabled at the category level for Junk files, since Caches and Logs are lower-risk, easily regenerated by macOS and your apps.
