Bootable Backup Compatibility with macOS Big Sur and Higher

The latest versions of Intego's Personal Backup X9 and Intego Backup Manager Pro software are fully compatible with Macs running macOS Big Sur or higher when using either the Backup or Synchronize task options. However, it is not possible to clone your startup volume reliably, using a Bootable Backup task on these systems.

This is due to a change Apple introduced in macOS Big Sur, called Signed System Volume (SSV), in which the system volume is crypto-graphically signed to provide better security and prevent tampering. This Signed System Volume can only be signed by Apple, which prevents Personal Backup and Intego Backup Manager Pro from being able to complete this task.

Due to Apple's integration of this new feature within macOS, it is possible that you may also lose the functionality of bootable backups made from previous devices when attempting to access them on an M series Mac. Because of these changes, we recommend that you do not rely solely on a bootable backup as your only means of backup. Personal Backup and Intego Backup Manager Pro's Backup feature will still allow you to create and save backups of your data and files on Apple's newer Macs and updated versions of macOS.

Can I Still Use Personal Backup or Intego Backup Manager Pro to Backup My Files on My Mac?

Yes! Users can still use the Backup and Synchronize task options in Personal Backup and Intego Backup Manager Pro to backup their data to another destination folder, volume, or location while using any Mac running macOS Big Sur or higher.
